Germany in supposed to have 3 million shortage of labor force till 2030. Due to having continuous decrease in its youth population, there will be not enough and readily available work force in labor market in coming years.
As per the reports of Spiegel Online (an authentic German Newspaper) Pakistan wants to qualify its youth for legal immigration to Germany. In a secret letter dated October 26, 2018, a high-ranking official from the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommended that a strategy be developed to meet German needs for skilled labor. In return German government authorities have answered to this letter by addressing the personnel development and training ministers in the capital, Islamabad. They said that Pakistani government should make sure that specialists needed in the Federal Republic Germany come from Pakistan as many as possible. But the training must be adapted to the German needs. The European expert refers to the “skilled worker immigration law”, which is expected to be adopted by the Federal Cabinet on 19 December, 2030.
It simply means that both governments are now in contact and there may be a possibility in future that Pakistani qualified and trained labor force would be able to work in Germany. However, German authorities have not in any case agreed about the number of allocated visas for Pakistan. So there are no set aside numbers of applicants that would be provided with the visa. All such news that state that Germany demands Pakistan 3 million workers for its labor market are fake.
For Pakistan, with its “large youth overhang of 67 percent of the population under 25,” the German Immigration Act offers a chance for them to be a part of labor market. But the training must be adapted to the German needs. Generally, there is shortage of cooks, metal workers, engineers, hospital staff, mathematicians and IT specialists. Interested parties should also be able to speak German and English. In the future, when the law comes into force, all university graduates and skilled workers should be allowed to enter Germany, who have a job and a corresponding qualification.
In addition, workers with recognized professional training should be allowed to stay in the country for six months in order to find a job. This is called a job seeker visa.
Tackling this hard situation of labor shortage in coming years, German government has announced a new immigration law on 02.10.2018 which seems to be passed by Bundestag (German lower Parliament House) on 19.112.2018. The immigration policy is based on Canadian immigration model where priority will be given to skilled professionals with good qualification, level of professional experience, German/English language skills and age factor. One thing that makes it different from Canadian immigration model that it will be non points based system.
